Pasárgada sertaneja: paisagens poéticas na obra de Eurico Alves Boaventura

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to explore the natural landscapes portrayed in the literary epistolary poem Elegia para Manuel Bandeira, published in 1929 by Eurico Alves. The analysis examines the poem's poetic construction in its geographical representation of the land, as well as its depiction of the everyday customs of the rural family of the sertão and the cultural elements of the patriarchal order of the sertão. It also establishes a dialogue between the author's poetic discourse and his historical-sociological essay on the sertão, Fidalgos e Vaqueiros (1989). Furthermore, the study discusses the poetic relationship between human beings and the land from the perspective of race, examining how the characters merge with the idyllic sertão landscape represented by Eurico Alves. This research adopts a qualitative approach based on exploratory bibliographical analysis. It seeks to examine the author's literary discourse, highlighting how the aforementioned poem constructs an idyllic literary landscape of the sertão while contrasting it with his socio-historical and anthropological essay on the formation of the sertão. In doing so, the study aims to deepen scholarly understanding of Eurico Alves's work by situating him within the tradition of Brazilian literature of the sertão through the identification of literary references and national poetic sources with which his writing engages. Finally, the analysis of the idealized natural landscapes in Eurico Alves's work demonstrates how nature and humanity, within his idyllic poetics, reproduce stereotypes associated with masculine and feminine social roles in the sertão. At the same time, his work confers singularity upon both natural and cultural spaces by constructing the fidalgo category of the sertão through the exaltation of its rustic landscape.
